Ancient Darkness Illustrations

​At The Worshipful Company of Silverfists we strive to explore the power of Illustration. There are wonderful examples of illustration all around us, but one of the most common places we discover it is within books. I therefor am glad to share with you all a collection of watercolored sketches inspired by Michelle  Paver's Chronicles of Ancient Darkness.

​The young adult novel series currently contains six books Wolf Brother, Spirit Walker, Soul Eater, Out Cast, Oath Breaker and Ghost Hunter. It is set six thousand years ago after the end of the ice age and explores what it would be like to survive in ancient Europe surrounded by auroch, bison and bear. I hope that while looking through these sketches you can imagine the terror of facing a raging bear, the wonder of stumbling across a ice-covered valley in the early morning light, or maybe even smell the sent of wood smoke on the air.
